once
there was a little boy
who had a very bad temple
everyone had started to complain about
him
so his father decided to give him a bag
of nails and told him son every time you lose your temper you must hammer a nail into the back of this fence the boy agreed the first day the boy drove 37 nails into the fence the next day he drove some more but as he started growing aware of his temper his temper started to subside
over the next few weeks
he learned to control his anger
and the number of nails hammered began
to come down
he eventually discovered that it was
easier to hold on to his temper
than to drive those nails into the fence
finally the day came when the boy did
not
lose his temper at all
he told his father about this so the father suggested that the boy should now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper the days passed
and the young boy was finally able to
tell his father
that all the nails were gone
the father then took his son by the hand
and led him to the fence
he said
you have done well my son
but look at the holes in this fence
this fence will never be the same
anymore
when you say things in anger
they leave a scar just like this one
you can put a knife in a man and draw it
out
it won't matter how many times you say
i'm sorry
the wound is still going to be there
the little boy then understood
how powerful his words have been
he looked up at his father
and said
i hope you can forgive me father for the holes that i put in you
the father hugged him and said of course my son i can like a bullet that has been shot can never return to the gun the hurt because another can never be undone no matter how many times we apologize words can never be taken back we may find ourselves in frustration or anger many times during a day but we must be careful that whatever we say or do in those moments won't pierce the hearts of people we love
